This is the second design completed for an award the North Suburban Peace Initiative in Evanston, Illinois has given to committed activists for peace. The text of the award was written in copperplate on a mat that surrounded this work. Unfortunately, my records on this series of awards going on 5 years now is somewhat sketchy. For each design, my constraint is to work only with the word 'pax' (Latin for peace) which then goes alongside the body of text accompanying the award. I'm finding it is turning into a reflection of where my creative energies are bearing fruit, illumination the first two years, brush lettering the third, more expressive lettering on the fourth and fifth and in the fifth, etching the word pax into the glass itself that covered the award.
